Biking in Whistler: Heaven on Two Wheels

Day 1: Back in the Saddle, Whistler-style

Let the Tour de Whistler begin! After checking in to your world-class, bike-friendly lodging, stop by one of Whistler's bike shops and have your bike checked by a local mechanic. The bike tech can give you some trail tips only the locals know. Don't forget to pick up a Valley Trail map from the Visitors Centre and check out Whistler's Ride Guide before you ride. There are hundreds of kilometres of biking trails from extreme freeriding to gentle cruising.

A good place to start is Lost Lake; there is an extensive range from easy to challenging cross-country trails. Lost Lake is just a short pedal from the Village and classic beginner trails to get warmed up on are Tin Pants and Molly Hogan. The Lost Lake trail builders have put heart and soul into creating new intermediate trails with sweet features. Check out the as-yet unmarked No Horses or Chris' Trail. Follow the single track wooing you into the woods.

When you're ready for a break, make your way over to Lost Lake's beach and enjoy the view while you catch your breath and rehydrate. If it's a hot day, jump in for a refreshing swim to cool off.

Next, head to the south side trails near Function Junction and ride beginner to intermediate trails like Cheakamus Lake or Brandywine Falls. The views are stunning!

Whew! It's time to get back to the Village and choose one of Whistler's many sunny patios for well-deserved après. If there is already a hint of saddle sores, soak in your hotel hot tub, or go for a hike or swim. Better yet, head to one of Whistler's many spas for a relaxing massage.

Day 2: Are you ready for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park?

Sleep in and order room service or go out and fuel up at one of Whistler's yummy restaurants. Elements in Village North can't be beat for an inspiring breakfast. Yesterday got you warmed up; now, today, you're going to rip it the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. It opens at 10:00 am. With more than 200 km of lift-serviced trails and 4,800 feet of vertical, the bike park will get your heart pounding and your adrenaline racing. Don't have a big, plush dual suspension bike to conquer the park? Consider renting. The right bike quickly devours the gap between a good to great downhill rider. Beginners also love the smooth ride.

Craving more gravity? Head to the Garbanzo zone and ride Freight Train, a trail modelled after the notorious A-Line. Freight Train features 2,200 vertical feet (670 metres) and 100 table tops, hips, step-ups, and step-downs.

Dinner means carb loading at one of Whistler's amazing restaurants; try Quattro for authentic Italian pasta. Then, burn off some steam at Whistler's lively nightclubs. It's where the action is after dark.

Day 3: Whistler's Epic Cross-Country Ride

Your last day brings some technically advanced rides so pack water, power bars, maps and tools for trailside repairs. Ride the west side trails like Whip Me Snip Me, Bart's Dark Trail, or the obstacle-rich A River Runs Through It. Or go extreme and ride the epic Comfortably Numb. Just bring the right gear and your favourite mountain bike buddy and be safe.
